When MagSafe was introduced on the iPhone, we knew it would be a game changer for how consumers interact with their phone.

Apple’s MagSafe feature is most commonly associated with wireless charging, but at its core, it’s a powerful connector that opens up a world of possibilities for attachments and useability. This gives Speck designers the opportunity to imagine all the ways we can enhance the consumer’s experience with MagSafe. First, we wanted to find out what consumers know about MagSafe and how they are hoping to use it, so we surveyed 150 iPhone 12 and 13 users to find out.

One key thing we learned is that consumers know what MagSafe is, with 70% of iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 users surveyed responding that they are familiar with the technology and 40% of those surveyed saying they actively use MagSafe. New technology can take consumers a few years to adopt, but it looks like consumers are as excited to utilize MagSafe as we are to design for it.

36% of those surveyed were influenced to purchase a new iPhone based solely on MagSafe wireless charging capabilities. That’s a big vote of confidence for a new technology and the opportunity to create accessories that utilize MagSafe.

Given this opportunity, Speck designers wanted to create a way to make the device accessible while charging and address any consumer pain points, such as tangled cords and potential damage to the charger, without jeopardizing the functionality of MagSafe.

Following Speck’s essentialism design philosophy, the team set out to create a product in which every piece of the design serves a purpose without adding any superfluous details. Designed with both the work from home and on-the-go consumer in mind, we present the new Presidio Pro Folio for MagSafe: Speck’s all-in-one solution for organizing and protecting Apple’s charging system.

With its slim and portable folio cover, Presidio Pro Folio for MagSafe turns the MagSafe charger into an adjustable stand, allowing users to charge their device while simultaneously acting as a multi-angle viewing stand. Our survey told us that 50% of respondents are aware that they can purchase MagSafe compatible cases and respondents were most excited about purchasing a MagSafe compatible phone case or charging stand.
